The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) Has any one got any experience in using the new coolants that do not use water. They are pricey but do have expanded temperature capabilities and no corrosion problems. The coolants have a longer life than anti-freeze and are not bad for the environment. It sounds too good to be true! Ed

Re: The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) I seem to recall recently there was a thread on 'The Barn" about the use of "the new and improved" coolant where it mentioned all the good stuff plus the engine ran hotter, which is NOT a good thing.

Re: The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) Here is an article on YouTube with Jay Leno talking about Evans Coolant.

Re: The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) No mention was made about freeze protection when using the waterless coolant.

Re: The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) While it is not easy to find, if you go to their WEB site, under product description it shows -40 degree protection. All in all based on what I see, looks like a good deal.

Re: The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) While it sounds good, I'll reserve my judgment until it's proven safe. After all when water or 50% antifreeze boil, they carry off a lot of heat. Since the waterless boils at such a high temperature, it will loose that protection. Just recently someone had an engine damaged by overheating, and as I recall they were using waterless coolant.

Re: The New Waterless Coolants (since 2012) Evans coolants have an expanded temperature range but they do not have the heat carrying capacity of 50/50 antifreeze or water. Your engine will run hotter and may still boil over. There is no substitute for a clean radiator and engine block to prevent overheating.

Again, I don't know what the stuff is made of, but I would suspect freezing is not an issue at all. |
