An old truth driven home

Couple of weeks back I was adjusting my clutch and decided to remove the pedals from their shaft and put some grease on it, not that they were sticking, but they had never been greased since I acquired the car in 1993. 1929 without zerks to grease it, but easy enough to do. Just a dab here and there, put her back together and drove it most every day. It slowly developed a rattle that on a couple of hundred mile outing a few days back developed into a real concern. I pulled up the floorboard and examined things, Wow is the brake pedal loose and the clutch isn't a lot better. I remember my dad telling me once not to grease the front end of my well worn 40 Ford or it would wander all over the road until I rebuilt it. Should have asked him about greasing the foot pedal shaft also. But then he's been gone for quite a spell now, so I probably would have forgotten his answer until it was too late. So tomorrow out with the tranny and in with a new shaft and some bushings.Well, when I get back from Mitchell's. Gonna be zero here tomorrow, but with a ten in front of it or maybe an eleven/

I've always found grease to be a good thing.

Good luck getting the old shaft out. I had one on my '31 sedan that just would not budge no matter what. Even used an air hammer on it. Ended up replacing the bell housing anyway because the original one had been "customized" by a previous owner - a couple of extra holes.

"MAYBE" the noise would have developed, even if you hadn't greased it?? Model A noises/quirks are just a part of the "MODEL A EXPERIENCE"-------It AIN'T a DUESENBERG!

I thought it was possible, although not easy, to remove that shaft without removing the transmission/bell housing ?
