floor shift conversion on 47 tudor

i have a 47 tudor column shift and i just picked up a hurst 3sp syncroloc shifter which i want to put on. the tranny mount is smack dab in the way. does anyone have any advice on how to do this install? right now i just can't picture how to get it done. thanks for any help.

If u want a floorshift, get a case & do it right

This sure seems like doing it the hard way! Why not swap out for a flow sift transmission?

i have several trannies, a 39 case and a 41 gearset i could use, just didn't want to do the swap on that yet. i also have a 3sp toploader out of a 53 f150 which should work out. thanks for the advice.

yes oldskool, it looks like the shifter but the bracket is handmade as is. is the picture you show for the 47 ford? if so i could modify mine if i had your bracket design and mounting instructions.

I believe some of the '70's Mopars had the shifter mounted to the floor, not the tranny

With this thought in mind, I have one car that has a similar shifter. I made a sturdy bracket to mount it on the floor, big enough to spread the load out. Then I made trans shift arms, with length to suit, for correct travel. In the case of a 47, I believe this means a fabbed (or modified) arm that is 'upward', instead of downward, (as the stock 47 arms are). And, of course, new connecting rods.
I'd provide a sketch, if I had a way to post a pict.
I've had this car and shifting arrangement for over 10 years - no problems. I'm sure you could work it out.
just one more opinion...

Hurst made a kit to mount one of their shifters to 46-48 Fords. Required cutting the floor but bolted on to existing bosses on the transmission/u-joint housing utilizing longer bolts.

oldskool....that is what i needed. i remember having a hurst shifter on my 41 but it was like that when i got it and i couldn't figure out how to mount on my 47. thanks loads and thanks to all for help. i am going to use my hurst cause i like it. i do have a 78 box with a bad cluster and a nice 41 gear set i could use but will save those for another project. my 47 is not a restore it is a old school 50's style hotrod.
