1936 coupe roof question Does anyone know why ford put the canvas top insert in the roof. I have heard two different reasons. Was it a cost factor to save on material or was there a technology issue forming the roof.

Re: 1936 coupe roof question there a technology issue forming the roof.
I have read there was a technology issue. I guess the deep draw needed to form the roof wasn't available at that time. |
Re: 1936 coupe roof question Technology was not available....37 roof was of the turret type....

Re: 1936 coupe roof question Lots of posts on this. Henry never spent money until he had to. His stamping presses where not big enough to make a 1 piece roof. Marketing even tried to advertise the canvas insert as a safety feature ( if you rolled it over and the doors would not open). 3 years after chevy went to the 1 piece Henry finally did.
It must have been cheaper than the labor to weld 5 or 6 pieces together. |
