Need help with this wheel stud? 3 Attachment(s)
Model T guys sent me your way. Hoping someone can help me with what to do about this wheel stud. Here is the thread I started in the Model T section, although I can summarize it real quick.
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161201 Not sure what this came off of, but I am in need of 10 wheel studs. Pics of the the drum and stud. Caliper says .62 dial. on the shoulder, .400 shoulder length. .750 of 1/2-20 thread. I need 1.250 of thread. Live chatted with Dorman today, they do not make a wheel stud with that small of dia. with a smooth shoulder. Wondering what my options are? Are people using knurled studs and if yes, what dia.? Hoping you guys can help me out and steer me in the right direction. Thanks, Matt |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? Your photo of your set up pressing out the stud looks wrong to me.
It looks like you are only supporting the outer edges of your brake drum. You must have a support around the immediate surrounding area of the stud head. Maybe you do and it's just not clear in the photo to me. If it's not supported correctly you will bent the hub at the very least if not crack/break it. |

Any ideas on the actual stud on what to do? |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? A large deep well socket will work. I've done that in the past on my press.
If you can't find the studs you need in the Model A Vendors web sites call Bert's. I'm sure they would have some Originals. |

I need them a 1/2" longer than stock. I'm assuming the vendors would have the same thing I currently have? |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? There is a Company in California called ARP. They make very strong studs, many styles used in Racing. They may have one "off the shelf" that will be what you need.
I know they can make you anything custom for a price. I use there Studs, Parallel Ground Washers and 12 Point Nuts in all of my Racing Engine Builds. They are the Best in the Business as far as I am concerned. |

Thanks. |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? I wonder if the wheel Studs on the AA Trucks rear Duals are longer.
If so that might be what you need. |

You will have to forgive my stupidity....what is an AA truck? |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? AA is the 1 1/2 Ton version of the standard Model A.
The Heavy Duty Trucks, some had Dual Rear Tires. They may have longer length Studs. I don't know but it would be something to look into if you call Bert's or a Vendor that carries AA Truck parts. |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? I think Steve could help you if the AA came with longer Studs.
I don't know him personally but Many Members on here Praise him very highly. Steve Becker Berts Model A Center 800-321-1931 303-293-3673 720-377-0063 303-484-7630 fax [email protected] www.modelastore.com In our 35th year!!!!!! Tues- Fri 9-4 Sat 8-12 MOUNTAIN TIME |

Re: Need help with this wheel stud? And the AA truck had um, larger studs/wheelnuts. And they were arranged to be right hand/left hand for the appropriate sides of the vehicle. (Henry apparently feared the action of motion would "undo" the wheel nuts of the heavily loaded truck.)
Also for the rears a special setup with a nut within a nut to captivate the double-back to back wheels. Joe K |

Looks like rear wheel hub, part # 48 1118. Same type and has the longest dimension "B". 1.56" This stud would only be .370" longer. I really would prefer .500" longer, but I probably could make this work. Would Bert's have this? |
Re: Need help with this wheel stud? Little Dearborn sells early V8 parts, so give them a try tomorrow.

Re: Need help with this wheel stud? What is the need for a longer threaded profile, custom wheels?
