AMP gauge acting up!!

Drove the '52 in to work today - cold out mid 20s - lights & heat blower on. AMP gauge started showing a discharge while cruising, then jumped back and forth, then started showing a charge as it should. Very weird. So where do I start - battery is fairly new, belt is tight, wiring is ok - not pertect. I've only have had this car a month so many unknowns.

voltage regulator is likely the culprit, check around and find a generater repair shop and take both the gen and the voltage reg to them-they should set the two to work together

Sounds like what mine has done when the brushes in the generator are worn out. Sometimes they touch the commutator and work. Sometimes they don't. Then one day they don't any more. They're a fairly easy and cheap do it yourself job to replace. I'd check those first.

Blu, Take your generator & regulator down to Anderson’s Auto Supply in Spencer. It’s a father-son shop & they can do just about anything.

Walking into their shop is a step back in time.

You might want to call to check their hours; (812) 829-2376

You might also check to see if they will check it out in the car. I’ve heard they do that some.

It’s only about 50 miles from Plainfield.
