'32 Steering column drop rebuild
 

I am looking for a "How to" or someone to rebuild a '32 steering drop. Mine has a missing key and the lever is broken off. Thanks for the help.

I think Baxter's Ford Parts ((785) 842-9256) has someone that rebuilds them. Even if you do it yourself they might be a good source of parts.

I think a couple of people were talking about manufacturing new levers...As I read this, I realize I never noticed anything further here. Are there currently repro levers out there??

Yes, they have been reproduced by someone, I thought there was mention of it here a couple of years ago.

Is the seller someone on here who would sell directly? The circles are maybe a touch too sharp, but a whole lot better than the broken stump I have on one drop!

I have created files in my "User CP". These files are divided up into topics.
One of the topics is 32 Ford.
At the top of the thread, ie... 32 Steering column drop rebuild, there is a section called "Thread tools"
I click on that and select subscribe.
I will always be updated on the progress of this "subscribed thread", and it will be stored in my files.
I simply went into my files and selected the threads about column drops.

Gene,
Look at the red bar at the top of this thread...See were it says thread tools.
Click on that and a list of options appear.
Click on the one that says subscribe.
The screen will change and it will ask you if you want to subscribe, click subscribe.
If you look at the black bar near the top of the regular page, you will see User CP.
Click on that, and all the threads that you have picked and have current posts will show.
If they do not show, look to the left and there is a list of topics, scroll down and pick subscriptions.

Here is some info from the guy in the second ebay version posted. In addition to the switch levers, he also reproduces the ON/OFF escutcheon....

My '32 lever is cast from a very nice original. The concentric circles are factory. My lever is cast in bronze and plated in nickel which is also correct. They are not machined or manufactured so to speak. The lever is heavy and far more durable than the original. My lever even has the indentation inside where the small spring sits should you happen to still have it. If you don’t have it, you won’t need it. Price is $50.00 plus shipping.


I have finally finished my reproduction of the ON/OFF escutcheon. I am completing them in small batches right now. They are also cast from an excellent original. They are plated in the same nickel and hand painted and finished one at a time. The borders and edges are raised as per original. The switch plate will slide over your existing lever as it should; unlike the stamped version. They are already shaped to fit your column drop so they are hassle free to install as long as you can see well enough to tap in the rivets! Several '32 aficionado’s and experts agree that it is an excellent reproduction. These are $75.00 ea. plus shipping.

Both his lever and ON/OFF plate are outstanding reproductions. The lever is also correct for early '35s.
