1953 Ford Special Washers needed 1 Attachment(s)
I have attached a photo of the washers needed for installing the hood. I can't seem to find anyone aware of these special looking washers. I checked with Napa, Ace and other online websites with no luck. If anyone has these or know of were I can get them please reply asap. These are for a 1953 Ford Convertible I am nearing completion of restoring.
Thanks ahead of time. Steve S 215-679-6669 [email protected] |

O.K. I looked at a couple of cars and it appears that the washers only go on the two leading pivot arms between the arm and the hood body. If worse came to worse, a person could nurl one side of a washer that had the same thickness. I also looked at the 2 volume 52-53 books and did not find a drawing indicating where the washers go or showing a hood hinge. It may be time to contact Ray Beebe. Keep us posted. Charles |
Re: 1953 Ford Special Washers needed I have Roy Nacewicz magnetic card on the side of my computer box. He trades under Fordbolts.com

worse, a person could nurl one side of a washer that had the same thickness. I know how to knurl using a lathe, but am wondering how to knurl a flat surface like that washer. Just curious. |
Re: 1953 Ford Special Washers needed On '49-'51 Merc's. they are called serrated washers
1-1/8" OD. x 5/16" ID. x .100" PN 356306-7 Used to help in keeping hood hinge to cowl location from slipping. Not sure how your Ford hinges mount but if you get an equivalent washer without the serrations you could try what we used to do years ago when even the serrated washers didn't work. Cut washers out of 80 grit sand paper and place grit side to the hinge assy. under washer. |

that I would use to knurl the washer in a criss-cross pattern. I can't see why that would not work. Charles. |
Re: 1953 Ford Special Washers needed Those knurled washers look exactly like the ones used in cowl vents in the earlier Fords. Perhaps that could be a lead for you. Best wishes, Toby Lampert

Re: 1953 Ford Special Washers needed If I had to knurl a flat washer, I would probably hot glue it to something and get after it with a hacksaw or file, and check my artistic eye
