Frame for rear bumpers on a '30 pickup
 

Hi,
Any advice on what to next?
I've a restored 1930 pickup and want to fit the rear bumpers that are on the roadsters. I've bought the whole kit from Mac's and everything else I can from Snyders but can't locate any advice or diagrams to create the brackets I'd need to attach to the chassis.
Anything for sale is for the coupes and far too short for the pickup so I gather I'll need a fabricator but without specifications I'm goosed.
Just to ad to the mix, I'm In Scotland.

Hi Gavin
You will have to use the car brackets from the chassis , then when you have it all fitted up measure where you want the bumper to be behind the bed ,and have the car brackets extended. That is the easiest way. Keep in mind that the bumper obscures the number plate. so you may have to re locate that as well .

I solved the license plate problem by mounting it above the tail light like they did in 1932. Note that the license plate illumination glass was on the top of a '32 tail light. I had to modify the bracket slightly to locate the license plate off center because it would interfere with the bed if I didn't.

We have 2 Roadster Pickups in our club. Both used Coupe- Roadster bumper brackets and regular bumpers.

Even though they do not extend beyond the bed, the bed is high enough that the bumpers would be struck by most cars before hitting the bed. The appearance is also more attractive, and the bumpers do not seem to vibrate.

Using the extended brackets as per my post #4, the bumpers provide more protection and the 1X3 steel tube attached to the body stands keeps the bumpers from swaying side to side.

I would be very interested to see pictures of how this turned out. Did you use a '32 tail light or just turn the Model A tail light upside down?

(For whatever reason, it's not letting me upload pictures this morning, but mine looks pretty much like Tom's except that mine is a full length bumper like what is on the front)

If you don't have a fender well , the spare can be tucked up the rear end .

This is my 28, probably similar to the 30 bumpers for fit.

It just sits in there real easy and rests on the crossbar .

Carl,
I put the bracket on years ago but never got around to the license light problem. I took a stock license bracket (repro of course) and cut it and rewelded it. I assume you could either turn the bucket over (maybe a fit problem) or use the '32 bucket that has the license glass on the top (last picture). Pictures to follow in 5 minutes.

Thanks Charlie, as the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words." I now know what I need to do. :)

Here's the way mine looks right now with the license plate hidden behind the bumper.

Gavin, I had a similar problem trying to mount a bumper on my huckster. Same problem, bed to long. So I did something similar to what Tom (#4 above) did.

I had to put on a bumper because the first thing I did after mounting the huckster body on the frame was to back into the garage door frame.
