Spark and Gas Rod Colar Does anyone reproduce the collar at the top of the steering column tube that the spark and gas rods travel in?

Re: Spark and Gas Rod Colar Yep, look at any Model A parts catalog (Bert's, Bratton's, Snyder's, etc.) under steering and you will find it. It might be called a bushing.

Re: Spark and Gas Rod Colar Sorry Tom I was not more descriptive.....I was referring to the part welded to the tube with the notches pressed into it. Found out these are not made......Thanks.

Re: Spark and Gas Rod Colar I would use a somewhat dull chisel to make the notches deeper. You'll have to hold a heavy steel plate against the backside while doing this, or if the steering is out of the car then lay it against some heavy steel when you chisel each notch. I prefer to move the metal, rather than file it away.

Re: Spark and Gas Rod Colar Tom
Is the part with the notches flat all the way down or is there a bow in it at the lower part. Mine is flat down to about 2/3 the way down then goes back about 3/16 to the bottom. It tends to make the lever snap down. is this the way it is supposed to be. It is fairly substantial so I can't see how or why anyone would have bent it. Can the bottom of the lever that goes into the notches be sharpened a little. |
Re: Spark and Gas Rod Colar The lever frequently has a flat worn into it where it rubs the notches. I have preferred, since the replacement rods are not expensive, to install new control rods. Using a Dremel, the notches can be cleaned up and the system will work as intended.
