Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? Are you running 12v? If so go to a motorcycle shop as they carry small ones designed for bikes. Since our tires are not mich biggeror actually smaller in some cases they will be fine.

I have one of these "charger, air compressor, worklight, booster cable" things. It sometimes goes in the Model A. However, it is usually used as a place for Momma to plug in her iPhone charger on a long trip. I have not yet used the air compressor part, and my Model A is still on 6 volts, so the jumpstart part won't help either. The worklight part has come in handy though. |
Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I used to see a lot of spark plug compressors at swap meets, but they don't show up much anymore. Try to find a USA made compressor. I find the far east ones are pretty much junk. My brother bought one from Harbor Fright and it went up in smoke the first time he tried it.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? Why, if a tube goes flat you are done (unless you plan on breaking down the tire on the side of the road and replacing the tube) carry a spare and a AAA card, low tire stop at a gas station. we can only carry so many extras, that AAA card is the best.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I have nice unit...but it has been worthless...because I don't keep it charged. The unit has to have a full charge in order to boost a dead battery. The air compressor is pretty much worthless....but as an oversized and bulky phone charger, it is excellent.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? My wifes brand new 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid came with one. Instead of a spare tire, even a donut temporary one, they give you a can of flat fixer and a miniture inflator to plug into the power port. No cigarette lighters these days. The car has the spare tire well, even the place to bolt a spare down, but to save weight they put a styrofoam block in there with the flat repair kit. You don't even get a jack and lug wrench! It's a good thing we have AAA!
You won't be hurt by carrying one on your longer tours and probably will never use it simply because you have it. |
Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I have carried one in my modern truck for years, but mine is useless for inflating Model A tires that have metal stem tubes as there is no room to clamp onto the top of the inner tube valve they are so close to the wheel center. Perhaps they would be OK with rubber stem tubes but my A's have metal stem and there is not enough room.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? The original pump does fine and you get exercise.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? About the only reason I see for carrying one is a flat tire. I carry the spare in a can in all my vehicles. It will even blow up the tire on the 1932 Chrysler so it must have a lot of pressure. It costs about $ 6 dollars at Walmart and AutoZone.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I do in my deluxe delivery. It a 12 volt.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I agree with Kevin, and I carry a hand pump. It doesn't take long to inflate a tire.
In my modern car, I do have one of the small 12 volt electric direct drive pumps, which was made in Chicago, but all the small pumps I've seen for the past 10 years are gear reduction and very noisey and cheaply built. |
Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? WalMart sells a made in USA hand pump for less than $10. Yes not peroid correct buti
I tested it with 120lbs in my bicycle tires. |

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I removed four tires and tubes from my Model A and installed new tires and tubes; never removed a wheel.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? Which one of the Monkees blew up the tire by mouth on the custom Goat. Always thought that was cool (and unlikely).

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? i carry 2 air pumps (12v) & spare tire in a can . i also have tubless radials . if running tubes your screwed on a flat unless as said you change the tube . you can do that with out taking the wheel off .
|
Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? I have one in my PU. Only time I had to use it was to inflate a "very soft" tire on another car while waiting in line before a parade.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? Northern Hydraulics sell a good one for use on 12V only and must be attached to the battery as cables too large to attach into cigarette lighter. If you have a flat with the tubes we have on most of the Model A's, how many service stations even carry a true tire patch as most only have the plugs you put in radial tires. Possibly a good tire Shop.

Re: Anyone Carry a Portable Tire Inflator/Compressor? NO I'm not using a hand pump and I have an inverter in the car for my cig lighters. I was looking at this one actually...Thank you all for you opinions and they are very valuable to me...
