Flathead timing 2 Attachment(s)
Not sure there's too much interest, but here's what I did to be able to check the timing on my engine.
I found that a 5" diameter thinwall tube would just sit in the backside of the front pulley. I had a shop cut a ring off a bit bigger than 3/8". I then carefully welded the edge of the tubing to the pulley (tubing is about .060 wall thickness). The outer diameter of the stock pulley is just a tad over 5". I then purchased some timing tape for a Pontiac that had a damper diameter of 5 1/4". I figured that would be close enough for me. I made sure I had TDC located, installed the tape, then made an indicator that will bolt to the distributor housing bolts. I'll have a complete picture soon showing the indicator Here it is and I think it'll work well. There's plenty of clearance also |
Re: Flathead timing Nice looking job. I've never painted an engine that color, it looks good. Walt

Re: Flathead timing Looks Great !! I like the engine color.
It will be interesting to be able to check the timing with a timing light. |
