How to remove spark & throttle levers? I can't seem to figure out how to remove the spark advance and throttle levers. I don't see anything removable down at the spring end of the rods. Help!

Re: How to remove spark & throttle levers? On the lower end is an arm to hook the gas and spark rods to. There is a little pin that goes thru those arms. The pins have to come out. Hope I explained it properly.

Re: How to remove spark & throttle levers? Those pins that bill talked about are a PIA. I have found it tough to get them out without doing damage to the column paint, rods and levers.
Since i was replacing mine i whizzed off the rods above the levers at the bottom of collumn and went together with new rods, springs and levers. |
Re: How to remove spark & throttle levers? Bill in NJ is correct and then a lot of tapping on the arm and pulling to get the lever rods out or at least mine were very tight coming out. Hope this also helps.

Re: How to remove spark & throttle levers? Thanks for the help, guys! Understood.

Re: How to remove spark & throttle levers? If you take a nut driver or socket that is small enough to fit up against the bottom of the arm and still leave room for the rod to pass through you can strike the nut driver/socket with a hammer and push the arm up shearing the pins.

Re: How to remove spark & throttle levers? 1crosscut has the right solution. Those pins are very soft and will shear off when hammered as he describes. Then the control arms and springs will easily slide off, and you can pull the rods up through the upper column bushing, if the whole outfit isn't too rusty.
