Is this uncommon?

I pulled the heads from the 59 Block that I showed on YouTube yesterday. It has STD pistons and very little ridge at top of cylinder. Is it uncommon to find one that has not been bored out? If interested I'm selling this one to help finance two other motor projects. :D

I run into them once in a while, Had an 8ba a couple of months ago. Polished the crank and used .002 bearings on both mains and rods.

I would have checked vacuum and done a hot compression check and then left it alone if the numbers were ok,

Mine is like that, too. Also, the valve galley was clean, almost no buildup.

What size is the bore? I've seen 3 5/16 pistons with a std mark on them.

Any chance it has been sleeved?

Re: Is this uncommon?

The first picture sure looks like that cylinder is sleeved to me when I blow that picture up. I think I am seeing a sleeve down in the relieved area as well as the non relieved area around the bore. Not as obvious on the other cylinders pictured. Some of these 59 engines were sleeved to a 3-1/16" bore and used as service replacements for earlier engines.

The bore on my 37 engine is standard and the rods are standard as well. Has some wear on the cylinders however.

I pulled the intake manifold and uploaded some photos and a video to this location if you're interested in looking at more of this 59 Block.

Another thing to watch for: A ring job done on worn cylinders. It could have had a bad ridge before a ridge reamer was used. So now the bore looks good but best to mike it to be sure

I bought a running 8ba for my 35. It is standard bore and virtually no ridge. I just thought I lucked out :)
