Sun visor 29 CCPU 1 Attachment(s)
I will have to recover the sun visor and need to know what is the best way to bend the tabs that hold two stripes of metal on. Do you heat to bend the tabs or just bend them. Don't want them tabs to brake off. Thank you in advance.

Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU I recently did this same repair. Heat the tabs to cherry red before attempting to do any bending. Proceed slowly.

Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU Any trick to bending the tabs down after the cover is installed?

Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU What Rex stated is my concern also. I can't see how you could heat the tabs once the covering is installed, without damaging the covering. It would be nice to hear from people that have replace the covering on there CCPU visor concerning rebending the tabs.

Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU The initial heating will rejuvenate? the metal. Don't do anything while its hot!
Put the cover on, put the strip over the tabs, then bend the tabs down. Do all this at room temp... I also cut some pieces of plywood to fit the 3 sections of the visor, both sides, and after cementing the cover together, weighted them together, and it looks good(like it was stitched. |
Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU Thank you all my truck is in restore mode. I have it in about a thousand pieces. My retirment project lol

Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU I received a nice email from Marco about how to bend up the tabs holding the metal plates on the visor without breaking them later and rebending them once new material is installed. He said to use a very small tip on an acetylene torch and heat only the area where the bend is before trying to straighten the tab while still very hot. The heat softens the area where the bend is, annealing the metal so when reinstalling the new cover, the tabs can be bend down cold without much chance of the tabs breaking.

Re: Sun visor 29 CCPU Gunmetal blue 2: I agree with some of the others, my retirement days are entirely too short, and yes Bill, my dog sleeps near my desk while I try to get everything done. I almost daily as that old question: How did I do all this when I was working, BUT I have an answer - I move slower...
