Are they better than the earlier steel, and did Ford carry them over to 1932?

yes they are better than the earlier press steel drums . Ford did carry over the design but made them bigger. 1932 came out with 12" drums instead of 11" that the Model A used.

In my opinion they are the front drum of choice since the hub and drum are one piece, the front hub does not typically have the race issues the pressed steel ones have . As long as they are not pitted up and not way oversize they are my number one choice even over the new cast iron for the hub reason. They are out there but hard to find. The fronts are much more plentiful than the rears. In fact plan on probably never finding the rears ... But the fronts are obtainable here and there with a good eye over time.

The next best are the New cast irons from Mel/randy gross/ Snyders/ Brattons, or other cast iron of your choice in my opinion.

My '31 Pickup wears a set of "Rocky Mountains" that surfaced after much searching at swap meets. The pickup brakes work much better than the stamped steel drums I've endured before. No worries whether the vehicle will stop or not.
After spending the money to buy a set of the modern cast irons for my 68C, I found another set of the original cast irons. I have them on the shelf at home.
