Re: Remove 1 ton rear brake removal

Its probably similar to what I have here, "Sil-Glyde" , a napa product kinda like vasolene but silicone based I assume. Good stuff to have around.

That's correct. See attached photo of Ford OEM socket

Attached are the pages from the 1939-48 Shop Manual that describes the procedure for removing the Brake Drum and resetting the loading on the bearing after the removal. My apologies for the upside down page 2 image.

I looked for the piece of the cardboard box with the seal #, but couldn't find it. I remember it covered a lot of years.

Re: Remove 1 ton rear brake removal

Thanks guys, you've been a big help. I was able to pull everything apart and get the needed part numbers from the wheel cylinders. Have all new wheel cylinders and flexible lines ordered as well as a new master cylinder. hard lines look to be in good condition, but I may blow some brake cleaner through the lines to get out any gunk that may be in there. Time to get cleaning and painting! I may order one of the bearing sockets to ease in the assembly but I was able to remove the nuts with a slight tap and a punch.

@expavr, Thank you, those scans helped with my question about tightening the hub. I did order myself a copy of the manual for future use.

I see that Fel Pro makes rear axle gaskets, but their online parts ID system only goes back to 1960 vehicles. Anyone have a part number for them?

Re: Remove 1 ton rear brake removal

Those gaskets for the axle shafts are darn near universal. If you have local parts store with some in stock for nearly any 3/4 ton pickup axle, like a modern dana 70 or dana 80 they might fit. bring a paper tracing along with you, or just make them

great idea. I have one that's in decent enough condition, I'll take it to Napa and see if it will mate up to something they have.

Looking to replace these axle end to hub gaskets but not finding anything in the shop manual. Anyone recognize?

Re: Remove 1 ton rear brake removal

I think the part number is 61-1144.
That gasket looks home made.
Did some more searching and Ford changed the number to A8TZ-1001-B,
old NAPA # J26253, Fel-Pro 2931. Looks like most parts housed have them.
