There are 4 nuts that thread onto bolts that are embedded in the rubber of the rear transmission mount. (That's assuming that that part of it is similar to a '32.) When they're removed, the cover over the spherical joint can be slid back and the entire rear can be removed, providing that the spring is unbolted from the rear crossmember and the brake rods have been disconnected.
The shifter is removed from the transmission by simply removing the 6 bolts around the rectangular transmission cover and lifting the top straight up. A bit of prying may be necessary to break the gasket adhesion to the top and / or housing. Immediately cover the open housing to keep various stuff from falling into the transmission.

The round top cover that the stick goes thru can be screwed off. They are often a bit hard to get moving. I am sure Ford had a special wrench. Most people use large channel locks. There are one set of flats on the lip at the very bottom. Once off, the stick just slides out

Yes, the gearshift will pull straight out though I would suggest removing the 1/4" pin in the side of the shifter housing first so it does not fall into the transmission. You'll see it after you remove the cap.
