What am i doing wrong
Hi All,
I have been trying to get my 48 running but I'm having issues with it barley idling and missing on acceleration. Dist was checked on a machine and checks out ok. I have new plugs with the correct gap, points, wires, rebuilt carb by kt and a new electric fuel pump. The gas is fresh and new fuel lines. At idle vacuum jumps radically 13" to 15" and at a high rpm vacuum gauge reads a very steady 18" I have been lurking in the background for years and really appreciate the wealth of information all of have to offer. Thank you for all your help |

CPB,
Will the motor continue to run with the 2 idle mixture screws turned all the way in or nearly all the way in ? How much up and down or back and forth slop is there when you wiggle the throttle shaft ? Charlie ny |

Re: What am i doing wrong
I was having problems with a V-12 after installing one piece guides and new valves, turned out one of the intake valves was tight. After allowing the engine to warm up fully, it unstuck itself. Then I dripped MMO down the carb and it hasnt stuck since. It sure sounds like you have a valve issue going on to me. I would get a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil, the kind that goes in the gas tank or down the carb and dribble some down each side of the intake while running at a fast idle and see what happens.
