Default Using a Ford tractor pressure plate in a car

It has been pointed out by several people on this web site, that a Ford 9" tractor (does not have the counter weights or the adjustable screws on the ends of the 3 actuator arms) pressure plate in a passenger vehicle is not a good idea. It is not only a BAD idea but it will cause damage to the passenger throw out bearing hub and the bearing. The passenger pressure plate arms contact the throwout bearing on it's face, as they should. The tractor PP arms are longer and contact the junction of the throw out bearing and it's hub. They grind down the end of the hub (causing a lot of debris) and cause extensive damage to the throwout bearing causing failure within a very short time. The counter weights of the passenger PP cause this PP to exert TWICE the pressure on the clutch at RPM as a PP without the weights. The extra pressure ensures the clutch does not slip. Ford tractors do not develop the RPM necessary for weights do do their job and thus the weights are unnecessary.

I don't understand why some people want to stick with the old Long or B&B pressure plates, when the diaphragm design is better, cheaper, are available in several diameters, and have finger styles for both early and late Ford throwout bearings. JMO

Don't quite understand how the tractor PP arms can contact the passenger car
throw out bearing in the wrong place when they both use the same bearing,78-7580-A.

Check with your local clutch rebuilder or NAPA.
