Does anyone have a room reserved that is not going to use it this August , 13th 14th 15th. Need a room or two beds, All the motels--casinos etc have a full sign, I have heard they are not keen on salt folk, We intendend attending but may have to drive from Salt Lake city each day unless some one can help us, Thanks, Derek from a windy cool NZ.

The motels always, for some reason, post as being full until 2 or 3 weeks before the event but then open up the saved rooms. I've never had trouble getting a room, especially on Sunday or after. I'm not sure but I may take my RV and stay at lands end, if so there will be some room for you. How many in your party this year?

Jim B,
'Lands end' ? Can you share some info on this? Have an RV and have wanted to go. If 'things' work out for August could use some inside info on this RV site,i.e.- map/location..TIA.

Land's End is the camping area just off Interstate 80 on the way to the Race Course. It is truly a GREAT time!! Everyone camps out anywhere they wish---No water, no sewer, only a couple of loos, nuthing fancy---ya gotta dry camp. We have been doing this for a number of years----

Showers are available at the gas station @ the off ramp for a fee, Same with the Truck Stop in Wendover.

You are free to camp anywhere in the area, just pick your spot. Watch the car show moving thru, visit w/ people, attend the various hot rod mag meetings, watch the fireworks show(s) every night, just great fun under the stars!!!! It is just a short trip into Wendover if you need something----

Coming from N.Z., I would check out RV rentals in Salt Lake, then drive the hundred miles (or so) to the Race Course. Lease or purchase a couple of small motorcycles for getting around at the Races, it's about five MILES (8 kilos?) from the pits to the start line!! You will want to spend time @ both!!

Depending where the Courses are set up, it may be anywhere from a couple of miles to five or six miles to the race tracks.

Don't forget the Sun Block and light clothes that cover as much of your skin as possible!!

We're looking for another GREAT TIME this year!!

Not to worry Derek, I'll take the first runs. Lands end is just a flat vacant area about a half mile off I-80, where the service road makes a 90 degree turn. Lots of RV's there, dry camp only.

if you are able to get a room it wont be cheap and some have 5-6 day minimums. *cheaper* rooms can be had, but still cost +/= $100 USD per night.

Days Inn had rooms a couple weeks ago... reason being, $210 /night with a 6 day minimum...

if you are unable to get rooms in Wendover, rather than stay in Salt Lake it is about 1/2 as many miles to Wells, Nv (60 miles) - still a bit of a drive but it is an option
