28-29 RPU Door Sill
I know the roadster pickup door sills have a cut-out to fit around the seat frame that the roadster does not. Is there a reason the full roadster one can't be cut to fit the pickup?

Re: 28-29 RPU Door Sill
I am not an expert on open cab pickups, but I do have a 29 phaeton and 28 roadster. I believe the sill plates for phaetons and roadsters (they are the same) would work on a OCPU. The subrails, I believe, are the same where the sill covers are located on phaetons/roadsters and OCPU's. The only concern is where the FORD script is located on the phaeton/roadster and the OCPU sill covers. I suspect they would be in the same location, as Ford probably used phaeton/roadster sill covers for OCPU's. I assume you have phaeton/roadster sill covers you want to use for the OCPU. Just line the sill covers up on your pickup and see if the Ford script would show or would be missing or partially missing when you cut the covers to fit your pickup.

Here's a picture of a repro part (from an old Snyder's catalogue I think) that shows what Rusty was referring to and the cutout just misses both the screw holes and the Ford script. Not a big deal, but I seem to recall that on the ones I used on a roadster the screw holes didn't line up with the original holes in the subframe very well.

Thanks for info. I'll most likely get the roadster ones and trim myself to ensure they fit the seat frame as well as they can.

Re: 28-29 RPU Door Sill
On the roadster sill plates all four holes are equadistant from the raised rib that follows the outer edge of the sill plate. On the open cab pickup sill plates the two rear holes are offset about 3/16 inch from the front two holes due to the cutout for the seat base. If the notch is correctly sized on the roadster sill plate it will cut into the raised boss around the two rear screw holes, I have modified roadster sill plates by cutting out the stamped bosses and moving them closer to the rib before cutting the notch.
You can see what I'm talking about in the picture posted by Randy. |

Re: 28-29 RPU Door Sill
Good catch!! Snyder's have an online picture now and the remarks make it sound like the cutout is the only difference:
