Default What is the fuzzy cloth-like strip around the door

opening for the '38 pickup. It appears to be nailed (?) to the cab.
Is it the last residue of a tack strip? Looks to be a 1/2" to 3/4" wide.
Is there an easy way to pull the nails?

There must be an easier way to pull out those screws. I bet I averaged 2 minutes each. The windlace was glued and nail? I least this one was glued.

Many of the cars of the 40s & 50s used the sheet metal tacks to hold things on from windlace to rubber seals. I use a tool that was designed to cut wire but cuts it straight with the tip of the wire instead of on the side of the wire like normal wire cutters. I use this tool to pull bolts and some types of tacks. Upholsterer's also use several designs of prying tools to pull tacks & staples.
Here is some pullers:

The above is a longer version of what I normally use as far as an end cutter tool. The short one I use came from either Mack tools ot Matco tools but it was purchased over 30 years ago.

Sheet metal drive nails were not truly designed to be removed. If I can't pull them out without too much trouble, I tend to grind the heads off and punch the remaining body through.
To install the new windlace, I use glue.
Picture attached is a '40 I'd restored but quite similar to your vehicle in regard to the lace.

Windlace with special color or pattern that is not available can be fabricated by someone with the right materials and a good sewing machine. There is at least one person that has her own loom and can weave the strips of cloth that surround the rubber tube. This is when folks want things exactly like they came from Ford. The older model Fords have some pretty unique patterns and colors that are no longer supplied by normal sources.

For the driver car, just find something close and live with it.

Kube has a point about the sheet metal tacks. Some have spiral fluting or other serrations to help hold them in. When they get rusty then that doesn't help either. Some folks have substituted pop rivets or screws to replace them with but it depends on visibility and application as to whether that will work or not. Glue will work for a fairly long time depending on environmental conditions and such but will deteriorate with time and use. Ford used tacks because they held well and where quick to install. They never figured on someone replacing them.

Absolutely on those spiral grooves. I called them screws, but they are not--no drive slot in the head, so they are nails. Did they have a pneumatic tool for driving them in? I eventually got most out. There are a couple that I can't get to because the seat base is in the way. Combine those spiral grooves and even a little rust and they do not want to come out. They must have installed the windlacing and pressed board panels before welding in the seat base. Certainly more room in the can without the seat base in the way.
