Oil drain plug gaskets
I need to get oil drain plug gaskets (1 to 12) for my 39. A very cheap item but I'm finding suppliers either out of stock or shipping/handling costs make it not worth while.
Anyone on here have or find any other gaskets or O rings that work? Or have any suggestions? Thanks Andy |

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
Last time I needed one I found that most Auto parts stores have a selection of gaskets to choose from either copper to nylon. Chose and installed a nylon one and it has worked as expected.

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
I usually make my own ring gaskets, like you need, if I can't easily find them pre made in the material and diameter I need or want. I have a good supply of sheet stock gasket material in fiber, copper, brass, nylon, etc., in various thicknesses. Have made gasket cutters/punches in many different diameters using thin wall steel pipe/tubing with one end ground sharp. I don't normally buy any of the tubing required to make these cutters, I mainly use different diameter circular items laying around the shop, i.e., exhaust pipe, worn out hole saws, heavy wall thickness cans, etc., to make inexpensive cutters/punches.

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
Hydraulic supply dealers (i.e., a Parker dealer) sell all kinds of aluminum washers with a bonded rubber seal on the ID. They work great on all kinds of situations where you have imperfect surfaces. Cheap too.

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
Years ago on a family trip I noticed oil dripping from my pan in a rest area two hundred miles after leaving an oil change 'quick-lube' joint. No gasket on the drain plug....aaargh. Unscrewed plug two turns and wrapped it with about 10 or 15 turns of dental floss, tightened 'er back up. It never leaked a drop. I did it again last week on a 59ab because I had no gasket here. I prefer the 'waxed'.

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
I have several gaskets for oil drain plug. They are for my 42 and up. Don't know the dia. off hand and it's too cold to go to garage (10 degrees) out. Let me know measurement.

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
Take the plug with you and go to NAPA or any other parts store.

Re: Oil drain plug gaskets
Or drug store. You only need 'mint' if you run synthetic oil.....
