Default 36 ford distributor / coil

I picked up 2 36 distributor at Hershey. I would like to get one rebuilt. One is a two bolt type to hold down the flat top coil. The other is the helmet type coil set up. Is one type better then the other. I know the parts are different in side and a like the look of the helmet type more. I plan to use this car as a driver so looks take a back seat to reliability.
Thanks
Jacob

The parts are not different inside, flat top coil is different in that the mounting screws in distributor housing are angled and helmet are at right angle to block. You would have to wait for "skip" or "Bubba" to tell you if construction inside coil housing was different. I will tell you if you have either of the old coils they should be "rebuilt".

The distributor that takes the two bolt flat top coil is a late '36 design that has the same or similar internal components as the '37 distributor.
The distributor with the dome top coil was used from '33 to mid '36.
It's my opinion that one does not have a big advantage over the other. The late '36 may have a slightly better timing advance curve.
Maybe consider having both rebuilt. Use one on the engine and carry the other as your backup spare.

Thank you, I bought these for my back up parts, but I think I will use the one that I get rebuilt as the one for the car and use the one on the car as a back up
