Default yee haw - 50 mph

Now that I've aligned the front end and replaced the entire service brake system, I thought I'd take the speed up a little from the 35 mph I previously felt safe with.

Cruised at 50 for a few miles ; wasn't even flat out.

Pretty sure that was a one time deal; 35-40 is more relaxing.

Great. My highway speed is 40-47. But all three of my cars will break 60 mph but I am not comfortable at that speed.

My regular speed is around 52-55 mph, car handles great at that speed. More and the engine is crying and quick braking becomes scary.

I while ago I mischievously started a thread about getting a speeding ticket in my 1928 Tudor. Although I can easily exceed 50 mph my preferred cruising speed is in the 35-45 range as the steering and braking of these old dears are simply not good enough for modern traffic.

As for my trying to get a speeding ticket, I took the opportunity to pass an RCMP highway patrol at over 80 kph (50 mph) in a 60 kph (35 mph) zone and only got a wave! I give up!!!

Now I am Mr. Lawabidingcitizen.

PS The brakes have been upgraded with Flathead Teds floaters and cast iron drums with all parts except back plates replaced.

I'm curious, are you guys relatively new Model A owners or have you had them for many years?

Add me to the car will go faster then I enjoy. But it's nice to know that it will do it if I have to go faster.

I cruise between 50 to 55 mph on a trip and do this continuously for up to 3 hours . I have no problems with steering or brakes coping with this speed and no engine issues. Every thing is standard (but well serviced and maintained) with the exception of Teds Floaters and a 5.5 Synders Head. New Zealand roads are good and lack the traffic density of the States which makes things safer -Karl

I followed my local club at 50/55 (some of them have Mitchell Overdrives) and was surprised at how Bonnie performed... but I feel a lot safer at 45. And like you, bunnyc, I had just redone my brakes, kingpins, tie rods, and new cast iron drums. It was a thrill to get her up to "normal" speeds.
I think though, with the club, I might let 'em know I'm gonna drift back and meet 'em up the road. They all have cb's and I just bought a used one.

My 29 CCPU is best between 45-50 on the flat.
4:11 not much left over 55.

Our club is good about keeping the tour comfortable.

I t is hilly here so even the OD guys get caught on our long steep grades.

I also like 45 for a stock car and engine.

Speaking of speed, many businesses in Minnesota have a free 4 page paper called Tidbits. This week one of the tidbits was about speed. "On Aug. 28, 1877 Charles Stewart Rolls, co-founder (with Henry Royce) of the Rolls- Royce automobile company, is born in London. In 1900, Rolls reportedly was responsible for changing the national speed limit from 4 MPH to 12 MPH."

I too am more comfortable at ~45mph.

My first 'outing' with "Our Club" was going to be to OC Pancake Breakfast, ~35 miles away. Then they mentioned they would be taking the FREEWAY! In Southern California!!

I told them that I would see them there... I ended up in a caravan with The President of the club (Thanks Tim) and another fellow with a '15 Model T on surface streets (with a Modern watching our backs to boot) and had a wonderful trip. Drove past Disneyland and California Adventure and a bunch of other sites we would have missed on the FREEWAY.

I only pass 45 when I'm running up speed to get over "red Hill" on my way home.
Like most of the others I like 35 - 45...tops.
I'm in no hurry and like to enjoy the ride as long as possible.
When I do feel like going faster I'll jump in my '57 Chevy
