Default Radiator Bolts Down

I have a question for those with 1939's. I did a search to see how others have arranged the bolts, pads & springs for holding the radiator to the frame & found one reference which doesn't agree with what I wrote down when I removed the radiator. The search said the bolt came up from the bottom but my notes say it comes from the top of the radiator ear down through the frame. My notes also said the pad was between the splash shield & the frame. The way my notes go, the bolt comes from the top, through the frame, pad, splash shield & the spring & nut go on underneath the shield. How have you guys found the radiator attached? Thanks.

The Green Book shows the spring on the bottom, but I had already installed mine with the spring on the top. I don't think it makes a difference.

I had this same question on my 47 assembly last year. The restoration manual called for raven black bolt and spring too. the green bible agreed but on at least two assembly line photos it showed a shiny bolt going up through with the spring on top. I guess it all depended on who was working that day.

Would you agree that the rubber pad is between the shield & the frame?

Have just refitted my radiator on 39 Standard Coupe.
Fitted bolts up from bottom. Rubber pads between frame and shield.
Spring, nut and split pin at top.
Technically bolts should go in from the top, as if nuts come off the bolts will stay in place and still locate radiator position.
Ease of accsess for getting at nuts if split pins are fitted csn factor in this.

Up from the bottom or down from the top would have been determined by the time study man on the assembly line. Think of the time involved to do the nut & cotter pin from the bottom as the frame rolls along the line.
