Question 47 Ford Steering column

A question regarding the section of the steering column under the hood of a 47 Ford. Mine is bare metal. Not particularly pretty. Were the originally painted? What is the proper treatment of it for concourse judging? Trying to plan ahead for Gettysburg......

Thank you.

The tube should be the same color both inside the interior and in the engine compartment as it is painted prior to installation. Color depends on your model and trim option but the shifting mechanism is a combination of black painted and unpainted pieces. If you have the resto book put out by the Early Ford V8 club it is very helpful.
