perchbolt/kingpin pain in the....
You guy's have been there before, I've been visiting that bad place and I learned some new four letter words. Brought my axle down to PALMER SPRING in portland and they had those little bastards out in no time. Very resonable price for the crap I went through this weekend. If any one is in the southern Maine area and is restoring an early ford these guys are a great help. I have a few broken leafs that they will fab as well. 207-772-0121, located @ 355 forest ave Portland. Across from Oakhurst dairy yesah!!

Great advise. I got the perch pins out of the axle on my '39 without much trouble. I guess that I was lucky. Since the threads are the same as the rear axle bolt, I used the hub knocker to protect the threads when I was driving the perch bolts out. Fortunately I didn't have any of the horrors that I have read about others having when removing theirs.

Ross, even better. When I picked up my wishbone, spindles and I beam guy's there said when I get my kingpins in they will press out my old bushing and fit the new pins/bushings in the spindles. Again less work for me.

What was the spring shop's technique for perch removal? Did they use a press directly on the threaded end? Or maybe they twisted on the top end?

Hello
Had the same problem years ago. After destroying the perchbolts, I was lucky enought to have a NOS set. I installed them with a dropped axle. However during installation, I used plenty of grease and anti-sieze should I ever want to remove them again. 10 years later, I decided to install the stock axle. Lo and behold, the perch bolts were removed with very little trouble. |
