Re: Gearbox removal..What gives??
Yes Mart, that's the idea, no point half arssin' it 'cos getting it back in will be a bitch!
I did try turning it slightly, however the problem remained .. Mac, Ive just ordered your book. I think I will try removing the exhaust manifolds and jack as high as I can [yikes] I'm hoping as Mart pointed out the putting back together is easier. I saying that if someone could tell me how the mount comes off that may help. As you can see its crappy and will be replaced.. Just hammer it off??

Re: Gearbox removal..What gives??
THe U joint comes off witha single bolt in the center. Then you'll see how the mount is bolted to the transmission. I think this weill be easier than removing exhaust manifolds, especially if you break a stud in the process.

Re: Gearbox removal..What gives??
Yep, the uni has a bolt down the inside,9/16 socket will fit and once it's off you'll see the 6 bolts that hold the mounting to the case, same socket size. You may have to do a little excavation in the grease to find them, but they're there.....As mentioned, slip one bolt and a flat washer back in the case once the mount is off or the mainshaft and rear bearing might slide out to say hello.....and just release the manifold flange nuts and drop the pipes down a little ,don't pull the manifolds off as that's only making work for no result,cheers.....

Re: Gearbox removal..What gives??
Just stick a screwdriver through it. The nut should not be mega tight, it's only a 3/8" UNF thread. Just go up the middle of the joint with a socket on a short extension.

Re: Gearbox removal..What gives??
On my 37 Tudor with an 8BA I had to drop the right exhaust to be able to clear the rear member with the transmission, it allowed enough room to jack up the engine high enough, nothing else was removed. My steady rods were on a plate bolted to the bell housing which I did not remove after looking at the install picture. Zeke
