Re: "40 Flathead fuel pump rod bushing
why do you want to remove it? is it worn? usually the removal involves driving it thru to fall out the bottom --cam has to out of car. you might be able to remove it with some sort of homemade tool but it will be hard to do, I have also been told you can thread it and pull it out, intake will have to come off to gain access

I've removed a few, never one with a cam in it... The old ones that I have removed have all been reuseable, so, why do it? I would absolutely do it to clean the oil gallery with a brush, if overhauling the motor. I made a driver from a bolt, cut down the head so that it will pass through the block, fits nicely in the bushing. Use a punch and hammer to drive it down into the area afforded by the cam removal... Might want to make sure the rear cam bearing does not intrude into the bushings path first... If you wanted to pull it up, you might consider an expanding jaw puller... I would not expect to find one available. I would not be tempted to use a tap as you may dump brass chips into an otherwise runnable engine... And, if you break off half- you're in a world of hurt... Re: "40 Flathead fuel pump rod bushing
That bushing, 48 and older, has a very thin wall, unless the bushing is worn right through into the main oil line your better off to forget it, if you try to get it out from the top it's almost impossible with out breaking it off half way down the hole, then your in big shit. With the cam and rear cam bearing out, you have to make a driver that will slide down about an inch inside the bushing with a shoulder about .002 smaller than the OD of the new bushing and drive the bushing down into the rear cam bearing bore. Don't worry if the push rod is a little sloppy in the old bushing, there is no oil pressure in there to worry about. Walt

You can tap it and pull it out...even if it is worn thru on one side. Remove the manifold. Generally all you need is "light" threads and a knocker. g
