Arm Rest Position
I would like to mount armrests on my standard '36 5 W coupe. I received the hardware from Bob Drake but the instructions didn't say exactly where I should place the armrests on the panel other than "where they are comfortable". They do say I will have to take off the panel and mount a hooked bracket (with screws) behind the door upholstery panel and through to the arm rest. Is there a slot in the door metal for this front bracket hook and how is the rear bracket mounted? Has anyone done this? I would like to see some pics or have the process further described before I start drilling out holes in the panels. thanks.

Re: Arm Rest Position
I bought the Drake arm rests in 2007 and noticed in January 2014 that there were no instructions included. I called Drake and they said I had to email their Tech support for help. It's now the end of February and I'm still waiting, so Tom I'd certainly appreciate it if you would include me on your offer of pictures and instructions. I'm sending you a PM. Thanks, Bob

Re: Arm Rest Position
Yes, can you guys post more pictures in this thread? I'll be installing armrests in my '36 Fordor shortly and a little guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks! - Craig |

Re: Arm Rest Position
Thank you Tom. I was hesitant to put holes in my newly upholstered door panels and was going to go without the arm rests. Now the hard part is covering the arm rests with upholstery. Bob

Re: Arm Rest Position
When I do arm rests I position them where they feel comfortable as ARM RESTS. I like to fit them to be used as door pulls as much as arm rests. I also weld a bracket in the door for them or reinforce the inner door panel for them and also weld in female threaded fasteners just for the rests so they can be used as door pulls without stressing the door or upholstery. I used Ford truck (I think) vinyl rests from LeBarron- Bonney in the 40 and painted them to match with SEM interior vinyl paint using the complete system.
