Default "keyhole" in floorboard

Found this "keyhole" shape hole in the floor of the 31 slant window. It has a metal plate nailed over it with the same shape. Any idea what this may have been for?

It looks like it was done BEFORE the black stain was applied. Very interesting !

Interesting thoughts so far...
The hole is right in front of where the passenger sits, about halfway between front seat and toe board. Maybe for a police accessory???

Since the hole does not appear to go through the wood floor, I suspect it is, or was a keyed stanchion hole for some sort of metal rod. I think the floorboard was changed out sometime along the way from '31 to date.

Maybe the car used to be a Police Commissioner's car and the hole was to mount a table to hold Doughnuts so the driver could serve them to the Commissioner!
