It is easy enough to camouflage good quality speakers behind door/kick panels, and if someone could make a small stand-alone amplifier (Not a radio or CD player) that could also be hidden behind a panel, then people like my kids could use their Ipod on 6v or 12v systems in their As & Ts. I'm sure your Tablet has music capabilities, so a wire going from the amp to plug into the earphone jack on your tablet would give you many hours of music options. Does anyone know of a device like I am describing that could be used in a Model A?

.
They make what you are looking for, they are sold for motorcycles.

http://motorcycletunes.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MT1-700 You would need the 6v - 12V convertor

This would fit under the dash and just plug in an headphone extension cable when you want to use it... or they also make bluetooth adapters

I have one of these.... But I think I paid closer to $50 on Amazon

Is there anyone out there that is using a IPad for this same reason.
I would like to hear about the availability of APPs on the IPad. What I really am looking for is one that I can tell it what roads I would like to travel on along the route and it would tell me when the turn (left or right) is coming up and how far to the next turn.
Thanks for your time.

I have an Amplifier similar to the one that I posted in #6 yesterday. Mine is 12V, but I plan to use a 12V 18 amp/hr sealed battery. At the amperage draw of that small amp, it will run for 20 to 30 hrs of continued use. I will just charge it during downtime.

In my opinion the Android operating system devices ( Galaxy Tab) are better than the iPad devices when it comes to Navigating. Again, in my opinion, the Google maps Navigation feature works very will for planning routes, and upcoming turn warnings. Both devices will also hold lots of music and interface with an amp either wired or wireless. Another advantage to the Android tablets is the ability to have an SD card in the tablet that you can remove and put music (or photos, or movies, or whatever). The iPad does not have a removable memory card, you need to rely on internal memory. As i said, I have both devices and if I need to leave one at home, it is the iPad. I prefer the Galaxy, they are also a LOT less expensive. All this in my opinion, I don't want the Apple lovers to tell me how wrong I am...

Ipads are neat but are out of my price range. The Android tablet I show in this post cost $130 new. It has 8 GB memory, GPS, 10" capacitive screen, 2 USB ports, SD card port (32GB), Bluetooth, Wifi, lousy camera, can be run from 6V Model A electrical system and has HDMI output. For me it was a much better value than a $500 ipad.

I have a Creative D100 portable speaker that works great. It can be run on 4 AA batteries or wall power using the included AC power adapter. It has bluetooth capability or you can use the aux input on the back and the headphone out on your phone or tablet. I play music from my phone/tablet using the TuneIn Radio app.

About 5 years ago my son helped me add a GPS to my car. t is a 7" Garmin unit. He welded up the mounting pracket that goes on the steering coloum. When I had problems with the audio output stage of the Garmin going south whenever I turned the volume we added the small amplifier. The antenna for the GPS is mounted on the small trianguler bracket by the roof of the Sport Coupe. It works great as the roof is cloth. Needles to say, I have a 12 volt system. I also modified a 12 volt voltmeter to fit in where the ammeter was. As my engine was worked over, .100 over, stipe cam, full pressure oiling, new counter balanced crank, etc.... I added a pressure gauge and tachometer below the speedometer. I also added a couple pictures of the hot water heater we hid under the front seat. Sure is nice not to get lost on a cold day.

Speakers are hidden inside my car but not connected to anything. This thread is food for thought.

Sometimes I will have a MAP in the side pocket for directions.

I just don't understand the point in adding this "stuff" to the Model A.

I have had a lifetime in the high tech engineering world and the Model A is a wonderful place to keep original and a haven from today's madness with social twitter/facebook/etc.

I just charge up my wife's tom-tom and use the window suction cup. Set it for "Avoid interstates" and turn it on when I need it to conserve battery life. I would like to mount a hidden lighter socket under the corner of the dash and plug a USB charger into it.

I got this from Amazon, mounted it up under the gas tank on the far right side with Velcro. (Convienent for my wife to plug her iPhone into.) It has 2 lighter sockets & 2 USB ports. Hard wired it so that it only works when the switch is on. Has it's own fuse.
