speedo not working
Hi Fordbarners,
I have a '31 coupe, and the speedo was working for awhile. I had taken loose the dash plate to do some wiring, and did not remove the speedo or cable. Now the speedo does not work. I checked it out several times, with no luck. Did I strech the cable too far?? Any suggestions.... Thanks all, John |

Re: speedo not working
Go down on your torque tube and unscrew the speedometer cable. If you can try and turn cable if it turns. Now get someone to look at other end with the cable disconnected. If it does try and turn speedometer with a small screwdriver. If speedometer turns, you proble did strech the cable.

Re: speedo not working
One time speedo quit on me. Unhooked cable at lower end & spun cable with fingers &speedo worked. Made up a shim from a piece of tin can about 5/8"x1/2" or so & bent it @ a rt angle to cover 2 sides of the male end of the cable.Trimmed the 2 ends of the shim so it would just cover 2 sides of the cable, then put shim & cable back together.Old cable end was worn a bit & this repair fixed it.

Re: speedo not working
If cable housing got stretched too long for the inner cable and if the housing is a spiral metal type, grasp the staked on metal part at the end with pliers and grasp the housing close by with pliers, and twist the two together to shorten the overall length of the housing. Usually works, NO GUARANTEE. (Gee, that was a long sentence!) I should hire that redhead gal with the cute butt to clean my house & TYPE for me!

Re: speedo not working
I am getting the idea peedo cables are a pain in the butt. My 1930 pickup, cable keeps slipping down and comes out of the speedo instrument end. Seems like the sheath is too long. Bill in Fresno, the process you are talking about is on the instrument end rather than the tranny end correct?

Re: speedo not working
Again, you may want to check with some of the parts vendors to get this little disk. This disk pushes the cable up into the speedo and keeps it there. Been there done that!
