Default Changing a Tire

My 16 year old son made a video of me changing out the inner tube of my Model ‘A’. Being the dad, I think it is top notch. He likes modern technology (computer stuff) and not so much my ‘A’, so I was really was exited when he involved himself in this activity. Let me know what you think, I plan on adding it to my site real soon.

That is a very fine video, and quite helpful. Kudos to you and your boy. I've been playing with these things for 50 years and have never figured out how to make that drop center work effectively. After watching your video I'll have to give it a try. I have five new tires for my 30 CCPU. But my question is, how did you protect the paint on the wheel when you appied that tire iron?

The key is to squeeze/pinch the tire beads together and push it down into the rim. The tire iron was there more to guide the tire off. I used it as a lever and did not let it slide against the paint. There were no chips or scratches.

I mount the rim on the spare tire carrier, keeps it at a good working height and doesn't move around. I put a plastic trash bag over the rim and the tire slides on.

Neato video.

I'm from the old school who likes to deflate the newly installed tube and bounce the tire to dewrinkle the tube. Comments?

That's a nice job all around, really professional. I like that you're using a hand pump, makes the video look old school. I think with my bad back I'll stick with an air compressor though. LOL

I recently put new tires on my Ford 601 tractor. I used spray silicone as a lube, and it worked very well. Prior to that I had used liquid soap, like the manual says.

Excellent video, kudos to you and your son! I'm not sure, however, that Henry would have used a screwdriver. Jack

Great movie, even without popcorn!
It goes well with the description of Tom Joad fixing a tube in "Grapes of Wrath"...ever read that part??

I really enjoyed your video. You made it look so easy. Perhaps you should produce the video for sale.

Gunmetal the split rims are easier to do to me. maybe because im i old over the road trucker. Had to fix my own tires. fixed a flat on my early 30 AA easier than the tires on my woodie when i installed 4 new tires and tubes@ linners

Very nice video and amazing how easily you made the tire change. It takes me a long time to change out each tire.

700RPM asked the question earlier on in this thread - 'how do you protect the rim paint?'

I found this gadget in a UK tool suppliers website catalogue (Vehicle Wiring Products Ltd.).

It is listed under motorcycle tools and is said to protect the wheel rim from the tyre lever.

How about lubing with KY? Would you spin the stem off? Sorry, the devil made me say it.
