When did service stations turn into gas stations?

Not sure but I worked in a full service gas station in the late 70's as a teen. It had self serve on 1 side and full service out front. Kept me busy but it was fun! A few years after I left it was sold, torn down and a convenience store with all self service was built in it's place. This was mid 80's.

Great job for a teenager, especially in the summer when all the girls where headed to the beach. Washing windshields was my favorite part. (pervert...)

When they stopped providing service. They used to check your coolant, oil, tire pressure, wash the windows all while pumping 25 cent a gallon gasoline!

Lol, mine too! There was a huge swimming resort about 5 miles from my station. There was always someone in a bikini stopping by for gas or directions. I'm starting to see why I liked that job.....

I worked at the airport servicing airplanes, one pilot asked me to clean all of his windows, in the back was a body in a bag, I didn’t show that it bothered me ( burst his bubble ) I did ask him how many soles he put in his flight plan .
