Default Front bumper differences

Are there any real differences between the front bumper for a 1930 Model A sedan and a 1930 Model A truck? Will someone please explain to me what differences, if any, exist between the two bumpers?

I think they were the same until one had a wreck.

Hypothetically no difference between what was used on a Pickup vs. a passenger car, -however to muddy up the water, the 1930 front bumper was about 63" long until August of that year when it was changed to a 60" bumper bar from then until EoP. Therefore it is possible to have two different bumpers for a 1930 Model-A.

An also FWIW, there were two different types of front bumper bars on the 1928, and then a different front bumper bar for the 1929. So basically there was a different front bumper for all years of regular production.

Other than the early 28 AR and the clamps I'm not seeing a difference between the 28 and 29 bumper bars, is that shown anywhere?

'AR' term was never used on bumpers.

The open end bar is A-17757 which was basically a superseded Model-T part number. This is what is commonly referred to as the open end bumper.

Then A-17757-A was introduced around 11/27/1927 which is the E - M1928 bumper bar.

Next was the A-17757-B which was designed for the later '28s and the 1929 production year.

The A-17757-C was the 62⅞" bumper, and then the A-17757-D which was the 60" bumper that was used until end of production. This can be researched at the Benson Research Center.

Wow thanks for all that. It's been a while, my last Nationals was 2003 at Deatborn. Our car is 4 Dec 1928. I just laid a straightedge across from the bumper bracket hole to the end bolt hole. It's 10". The maximum depression in to the bumper bar is a "dent" of 0.5".

From your 1st picture it looks like the early-mid 1928 bar is about twice that indentation, so our car has the late 28-29 bar.

What was the diff from A-17757-B to A-17757-C?

Different shape. The 'C' began around October of '29 slated for the 1930 model year vehicles.

Thanks again. The latest Judging Standard I have is 1989 & kinda vague.
They just mention the August 1930 change from 62-7/8 to 60" length.

My Dec 28 car measures 63-1/8 with a tape measure but that could be off a little. The ends dent in though as described, just not as much as the earlier 28.

Looks like 1930-31 was almost flat across, no shaping on the ends.
I do see a picture in DeAngelis et al 1971 pn pg 155 of a prototype 1930 car, dated Sep 26, 1929, it still has the 1928-29 style bumper not the flatter 1930 style.
