Re: Yes, times they are a changing
Not being argumentative BUT so is Ebay and I have three different acquaintances that have “shill” accounts, ALSO watching “Chasing Classic Cars” and Bonhams as much as admitted the “same thing” as having “plants” bidding on cars to drive the bid up, BAT is not ammune!!! They “also” have a vested interest in a car like that selling like it did……and maybe it did??? call me a sceptic!!!! JMO.

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
Sceptic - NOT that the car didn’t “sell” for what you say……JUST the amount of legitimate buyers willing to bid a 35 3 window up to $90,000. AGAIN, “for example”, my brother had an item listed on ebay, he did not put a “minimum” bid “hoping” for activity bidding on his sailboard Sail, “hoping” that it would reach, at least $25……I did not, it only garnered a opening bid of $.99. He asked me to bid it up to “see IF” it would make the $25 mark…..I bought the sail…..wink wink!!!! SO again, “maybe” they flushed out the one buyer at $90,000……That’s my point!!!! Happy for him he found someone that willing!!! not a point of calling you a liar.

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
It seems like some of the things sell for ridiculous amounts....then there’s the people that have bidding software and can beat you out for $1 on a $200-$300 item, at the last second.....I think there’s too much hidden in the works of a lot of auctions.....Mark

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
Mecum is not where u sell an old Ford unless the site is a short driving distance - just my opinion.
Guessing this one was a first day sale of mostly lower priced bidders. |

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
Auctions can be pretty murky waters to wade through.
There are a lot of hokey-pokey things going on behind the scenes. Most notably shill bidders. Be very very careful.... |

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
Mecum admits as much as they can take ghost bids up to the reserve. So bids may be phony below the reserve. What difference does it make anyway?

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
If I place my maximum bid on eBay my bid only shows as the next increment in the bidding progression. If someone bids using that “last second” software and takes the prize one dollar over my set maximum I would not feel bad, my established value for the item was exceeded. Last second bidding does nothing on eBay if you set the maximum you are willing to pay for something.

Re: Yes, times they are a changing
I was born at a time that it made it possable for me to have these old cars at a fraction of the cost it take to run a car thru a car wash. Had a 36 convertible that I paid 40 bucks for in the early 50's, everythhhing worked. baught a 36 2dr with 8K miles on it for 100 bucks, had to replace the motor, didn't run thru the war. got one from a junk yard. Many more . The new cars arn't that expensive the money isn't any good. look wha thappened to the nickle candy bar??
