Default Engine ID tags YBlocks

Anyone have any info on theses tags. What does the numbers signify (code) See pic - the round item with the # 265 on it. I assume the coding has something to do with displacement and or HP, sedan or Tbird engine.

It is (was) an ENGINE IDENTIFICATION TAG used during that period. They went to metal tags later.

Full description is described in a period TECH BULLETIN of the period which I seem to have misplaced.

The trouble with them was being cardboard, they didn't last long.

Do you have any indication of the TB number ? Specifically for 56, Tbird.

Here is an ENGINE ID tag used in the sixties and early seventies. Notice ENGINE CODE NUMBER. That is what you are seeing on a fifties car engine tag abbreviated. The CODE will give FORD the exact build and calibration of the engine(s).

According to the restoration manual from CTCI ,Gil Baumgartner, that tag indicates that the engine is a 1956 with an overdrive transmission.

Yes - I saw that - thanks. I also came across a 266 tag and the owner says it came from an automatic 56 Tbird.

... hmm ... (can't remember the words) ...

Maybe that is where I saw the SERVICE LETTER, on a BIRD MESSAGE BOARD.

Now I know that it is copyrighted material but does it show a FORD SERVICE LETTER SOURCE for the info?

I've looked through most 1957 SERVICE LETTERS and did not see it. It might have been in another year.
