Default Oil Filter Converstion To Paper Filter

Sort of know the answer, or at least have an opinion; but in some of my discussions I'm getting different responses, wo:

Q. Is there a problem if you convert the Oil Bath Filter of a 54 Y Block, and simply replace it with a good quality "Paper Air Filter"?

If you are talking about replacing the original oil-bath air cleaner with a modern type that has a throwaway paper filter, the biggest concern is getting a housing with the right throat size to fit your carburator.
Actually, the oil-bath type is superior to those, but the industry switched to the paper type because it decreased the intitial cost at the dealership but increased the cost to the customer in replacement paper filters. Then you have the guys who never change the paper filter, causing the carb to run lean and increase vacuum in the throat.

This is for a 56, but it should provide some ideas to get you started.
