I’m looking for any history/information
on an original, unrestored 1931 Standard Model A Coupe I currently own. The only information I have at this point is it was was owned by Harold Smith (no further details) and was shown at the 1983 MARC Nationals in Dearborn were it received a MARC of Originality award . The car is all Black (Apple Green pinstripe) with Brown check upholstery. Most of the paint and all of the upholstery is original. A search for Harold Smith was unsuccessful at this point . Perhaps someone may have known him and this car ? Any information and or photos would be greatly appreciated . Please PM me , Thank you ! |

I would suggest joining MARC and asking them for information on the car.

You probably already know this but the July/August 1983 issue of The Model A News lists his name and the car under the awards section but it does not contain a photo.
Perhaps you can track down someone with a MARC Roster from that era that could contain his address which could help in your search for more info. -Tim

I'd love to see it. Are you driving it to the OC Pancake breakfast on the 30th? |

First person that came to mind was Putt Smith.

Looks like it was Putt's car. "James Harold “Putt” Smith of College Park passed away February 16, 2020."

Thank you all for the information and the compliments !
The paint is mostly original . The fenders and hood have been repainted. The body and lower splash aprons still retain the original paint. The Apple Green pinstripe on the body appears to be all original . The interior is all original and in very nice condition. The windshield is original, discolored and delaminating. I’ll post pictures of the interior in the next day or two. I appreciate all the information, if anyone has additional information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you |

Ronn,
If you read my original post , you will notice it states “mostly original paint”. Never did my post state it was 100 percent original paint ! It IS an original Unrestored car with 100 percent original upholstery and once again mostly original paint . It was awarded the “MARC of Originality” in 1983. I am merely trying to find out more history on this car ! The Town car is not mine, however it is an exceptional car ! Last edited by Modelacoupe3; 04-19-2023 at 10:34 AM. |

There are a number of active MARC regions in GA. He was most likely a member of one and maybe someone there would know more about the car. Not sure the geography of Georgia well enough to tell you which is closest to him.

Thank you Tim ! I will contact MARC and see if they can provide additional info.
When I purchased the car last year, it was located in Illinois . The gentleman I bought the car from said he purchased it out of an estate sale. He did not have any additional information on any previous owners . The Harold Smith aka Putt , that others have mentioned here is a strong possibility and I continue to pursue that lead as well. Thanks to everyone here for their help. |

Looks like a nice sound Model A that hasn’t had a lot of owners and “poor” work done to it.
If it were mine, I would keep it just as is. Remember, no matter how good your car, there will always be that individual who will fine ways to fault it. Whether a new GT40 or a 1931 Model A, there out there trying to put the car down. Enjoy. |

I have a roster from 1980 but don't see a Harold Smith in GA. or IL. If you get any other leads I can look further for you.
