40/41 Temperature gauge
Is the temperature gauge (or for that matter all the gauges) for a 41 Ford pick up truck the same as 1940??

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge
Kinda.
The gauge is the same but the face plate has different graphics. The only gauge in the cluster that is different is the batt gauge where for some reason Ford went backwards in '41 by using an ammeter gauge D-0C rather than the more useful volt meter like in 1940. The graphics on the panel and the gauges are different in '41 where as the 1940 cluster is identical to the 1940 standard passenger car. Face plates are easily changed by carefully un-bending the tabs and by not disturbing the needle can be moved to another gauge. 4 speed trans have another speedo graphic. |

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge
Okay
Thank you Floyd for the response. Let me approach my question this way. Here is the cluster I have….what flavor is it? That way I can get the matching Temp gauge without having to re-invent the wheel. This is in a Ford GP Jeep, Ford raided their parts bins of leftover parts to build these…..NOT 100% sure this is the “exact” cluster for it BUT again for the sake of not re-inventing the wheel. Sorry for the I-Phone flip |

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge
You are part way there. The cluster ,speedo, fuel and looks like (too much glare) the temp are 1940 for sure. The oil and ammeter are '41 pickup because they have the thicker font for the lettering. The temp gauge may have a problem as it seems to show the needle is not at the "hot" setting which is correct when ignition is off.

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge
The temperature gauge doesn’t move, ignition on or off, so I will put an ad out on the SWAP meet side for a good used or NOS gauge. SO I “should” look for a 41 to be consistent with the rest??

However get either 40 or 41 temp gauge to get started. |

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge
The pictures I’ve seen of 1941 GPs have the 41 pickup or truck cluster. I’m not sure however if the 100 mph speedo or the truck 60 mph speedo is correct. Or maybe they used both of whatever they could use? In any case, this would be the 1941 pickup cluster, note the gold, charcoal, and red colors, the 50 lb oil pressure gauge, and chrome trim. In 42 or 45 they painted that trim ring cream.

Re: 40/41 Temperature gauge
Thanks
This is a refurbished cluster by a fellow who has done most all of the one out there for the GP. I am most likely gonna send mine for him to do. |

I just became member of this forum so my answer is quite late. The restored cluster you show in the picture is correct for GP. A GP had a cluster with a Waltham 100 mph speedometer. The first picture you did post of your cluster is not correct. The cluster has a Stewart Warner (or King Seeley) 100 mph speedometer. The faceplate is different from Waltham, as are the odometer rolls. Also, if Stewart Warner, the cluster would be too deep for GP making the speedmeter cable have a big kink. (by the way, the second picture in the post of Fritz is also a Stewart Warner and not correct). The restorer could fake a Waltham faceplate but the screws connecting the face plate to the frame are not in the same spot and the odometer rolls are different in size and placing so ... If you want more details about this I could refer you to the G503 forum where in the GP section I have made a long story about this topic. Greetings Hans Last edited by htc; 01-11-2023 at 11:18 AM.
