Default Judging question

Do you lose points if you have indicators/trafficators/flashers on a concours car? I realize that they were not fitted originally, but if I want to drive it, I feel that they are necessary in today's traffic. Also, what about an opposite side tail light? I am asking, as my next restoration I want to enter concours judging, but still be able to drive safely in modern traffic.

Yes, ...and No. Don't assume it will automatically fall into the Safety Exemption category at an event. In most concours events, you either need to obtain a variance for anything that is not 'as it left the factory', -or draw it to the attention of the Chief Judge or Team Captain.

It would be wise to clear it ahead of time. I lost points in "Touring Class" judging for having a "plastic tail light lens" even though it was a molded LED tail light which is much brighter and safer than the dim incandescent original.

I would and have added turn signals and a right hand taillight. If points are deducted, I live with it for the safety and courtesy.

Most guys who enter blue ribbon judging don't drive their A's. They're trailered. This is perfectly understandable if you are going to make the effort to attain the level of perfection needed for blue ribbon judging. So most won't have turn signals installed. I have seen battery powered remote control turn signals like these https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-...183812&sr=8-54 in use that can easily be removed without a trace.

Thanks for the info. I think I will add them for safety reasons, as I still will drive it. We only have one national event every two years in Australia, so I will drive it in between. Judging is done early during the week, so the cars can be driven after judging, including a compulsory run.
