Default Model A Water Pump Availability

I need to replace the water pump on my 1930. I have tried Mikes, Snyders, All Ford Parts, CW Moss. All of them say National back order. Mikes told me could be 6 to 8 months. I contacted a member at the local Model A club who supposedly had 3 of them. His response was "Due to the non-availability and un-certainty in the future I decided to hold on to the water pumps."
Does anyone know where there is availability? I want the leakless type that doesn't have to ever be greased. I got the car from my Step Dad who passed away. It has not run in 10-15 years. I was hoping to get it on the road this month but supply issues. Wow!

The rebuild kit from Bratton's doesn't seem to be the leakless type, but it is really easy to install and would get you on the road. They aren't troublesome leakers and do just fine.

I rebuilt one for my 29 recently. It has the seal in the main bushing but is otherwise pretty much like the OEM. I set up a grease gun just for it using Lubriplate 130-AA a long time ago. Hit it every 500-miles and it's good to go. I have an arbor press to change the bushing and install the impeller. Other tooling may work for that. It depends on how you are equipped.

I'm having a similar issue with my V8 60. I have the early 37 model water pump (timing cover and pumps integrated) on a 38 engine. The two pump retaining caps are cracked. Does anyone know if these are remotely available or with the seperate style pump assemblies fit on the block along with the seperate timing cover?

I'm not positive, but I don't believe the M.A.C.S Fabrications on EBay that's selling these is the same outfit as Mac's (Ecklers) Auto Parts in Florida, is it?

That would tell me MAC's is out of stock and that price is there to keep the listing live till they get back into stock. Once they are back in stock, the price will go back down. Not uncommon for some sellers to do just that.

The leakless one you want is a fiction. They will leak and need grease after time.

How much time? My leak-less pump is 15 years old and not a drop of leaking. I did use an additive years ago of water pump lube to cooling system. maybe that's the key???

Waterpump lube in the cooling system is a good idea.

Snyder's may not have the complete water pump but it appears they do have parts.

DPV1936,
Have you tried Bert's Model A in Denver? They are pretty good at finding parts.
I sent you a PM about this.

If you still have the old one on the car just change the packing. I Bought a leakless pump when I first got mine, they will leak down the road then u have to buy the kit. So much eaiser to just change the packing, the way Ford made it!! [not sure if they make a kit] I Just went back to the original pump.

I called Bratton's yesterday or the day before and they were out and said it would probably be a while before they or anyone got water pumps in stock.

Yikes! I may have gotten some bum info and went ahead and ordered one from them. Hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait. Sorry about that…

I rebuilt my water pump a few months ago with parts from Smith and Jones in Columbia SC, great folks, I rebuilt mine as a stock water pump, but I put a 28-29 brass packing nut on my 31 pump. Don't hyperventilate yet, there is a reason. Brass is stronger than zinc, the zinc nut I bought originally crumbled in my hand like glass, so I bought the old style brass one and never looked back. If you want something that will last the rest f your life, go with a 28-29 brass packing nut with the rubber seal, get the rear bearing with the rubber o ring to help keep in the grease and stay with the stock front bearing. grease occ and ride.
