Really cool vintage footage of the Ford flathead V8 being cast, assembled and tested at the Rouge Ford plant.
Sorry it's a Facebook video. May be on Youtube somewhere. https://www.facebook.com/thevintagen...TAxOTY0NDEyOA/

What an amazing process, I marvel at the machinery created to mass produce the V8. Pretty amazing for the 30’s.
It brings to mind the many interviews with Fords engineers available for you to read in the Benson archives. Thank you Mike for sharing!!!

I think it's an accumulation from over several years. At one point, I saw the round, flat-top coils, which I think are '36, while some examples of the assembled engines are 21 stud, while others are 24 stud.
Still an interesting video, though. While I saw a bunch of fasteners tightened manually, I didn't see a torque wrench even once. With the repetitions those workers went through, I'll bet they wouldn't need them. |

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought Ford was making a run of them now

I had seen that before, but always enjoy seeing it again. Really liked seeing those blocks being sand cast, and the being machined.....if only I could reach in and grab a few as they finish their final machining operation.

I like how the guy is operating the bucket crane from a cab just above the bucket. Never saw that before.
Just realised I have to go out. I'll watch it later. |

I was being made about the same time as the flatheads. but I was known for being a hardhead. Liked the show, one of them could have been put in my 41.
