Re: Charging Problem
test overdrive solenoid--from Ford repair book--connect ammeter to solenoid wire, if the reading is 6 amps momentarily, then maintains a reading of 12.5 amps it is normal, if the ammeter maintains a reading of 18-20 amps replace solenoid (
when the car is in the "not charging" mode full field the generator to see if generator or regulator, full field by takin field wire off regulator and touch to armature connection, increase engine speed and see if ammeter shows 20 amps or more, doing this for short time won't damage generator, but long term can cook it the regulator for the 2 brush generator has to limit both voltage and amperage, and either adjustment can cause too low a charge rate, the amperage has to be limited to the generators safe capacity |

Re: Charging Problem
are you checking this with a volt meter on the batt od sol have two windings one for pulling in in the other to hold if it,s staying on pull it uses more current .do this simple test run eng at a fast idle remove batt cable if car is charging it will stay running
