Default FatMat Sound Insulation

Has anybody installed FatMat sound insulation in their A?

What was your success?

Is it worthwhile?

Thanks,

I bought some of this from Bert's..

https://parts.modelastore.com/show_Product.asp?ID=4943

I added it inside both doors and on the quarter panels.

I think there was a big improvement not only in noise but it made the whole cab feel more solid.

I bought more and will eventually add it to the rear panels behind the seats.

Since the interior is out of my 29 Tudor, I am considering this type of product. One thing that concerns me. There is no weather seal between the door and door glass. How will the sound deadener be affected by water? How will affect the doors ability to dry out after a rain or car washing?

A more affordable alternative would be Peel & Stick Roofing At Lowe's

I think this is what Burner31 is referring to?

From a corrosion stand point, you don't want anything in your door that will hold water. Dense stick-on would be OK.
If you try to insulate under the floor boards, be sure to do it in a way that you can work on the car without removing all the insulation. I have seen people cover everything and it takes all day to get the boards out when you have to.

I think the "Peal and Stick" product will provide a measure of sound deadening to a vehicle, but very little insulating value. Used it in my 31 coupe along with a foil backed fiber insulation material. Haven't gotten to the doors and floors yet, but some very good points for these areas has been pointed out here.

Probably the best is Dynamat, but expensive.

I have used HomeDepos peel and stick and it does make a difference.

Made my normal frustrating stop at local Home Depot this morning looking for the self adhesive duct wrap mentioned above. Their computers said they have it, but nobody could find it! If you need something smaller than a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood, good luck.

Try Lowe's. They have employees that are NOT all owners, but they know where things are in Virginia.

I used this on all surfaces below the windows as well as the metal floor pan.

https://www.fatmat.com/shop/rattle-t...-included-6586

I installed it when the body was primed. We then painted all of the interior and the Rattle Trap as well as the fire wall insulator. The look good in their matching body color.
It does a great job of killing the harmonic body booms

To clarify, I was referring to the 36" wide roofing product mentioned in post #5.

I have.used Dynamat ove4 the years. I like to warm it up with a heat gun as Im applying it. I use a little wooden wallpaper seam roller to get it laid down nice and even. You dont need to coat the entire panel.
