Like everything else...shop around. I've had a lot of chrome done over the years by a local shop, never paid ridiculous prices like I'm reading on this post. The process is labor intensive, so start with good parts to get re-plated.

I my
In My part of the country plating cost have gone out of site I think its because of the laws that are past to protect the safety of the toxic chemicals. |

About 15 years ago there was an outfit in Southern California that would send your bumpers over the border for replating in Mexico where there were no environmental restrictions like we have in the U.S. I wonder if that is still an option?
