Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
Unless it's a tail wind, wind is not a friend of a Model A Ford. Learned that lesson today.

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
The aerodynamics of the flat windshield on the A is like driving a brick into a wall. :-)
Hey, as a teen, I too sold the Grit from door to door. I was thinking it was only $0.12 cents back then, but it was so long ago I have forgotten. It would be nice to see modern papers print out more of the "good news" style writing and articles as was printed in that paper back then. Last edited by coupe1942; 06-05-2016 at 02:34 PM. |

Try a cross wind or gust in a Town Sedan sometime...

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
I have experienced cross-winds in my flatbed BB that make it feel like the front fenders are contemplating flight!

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
That is exactly the reason I shake my head when people talk about adding speed equipment to their A. Just cause you can make your A go 70mph doesn't mean its a good idea! I have never had mine above 55mph and its not because it wouldn't, its because I wouldn't!

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
Drove in a 30 mph crosswind a couple of days ago. I am glad I was driving in town and not on the highway. I could hardly hold the old girl in the lane on top of some of the hills. It is for this reason I do not drive over 50 mph. The winds around here can be fierce as well as fickle.

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
I was driving today at 40-45 mph and have a real sharp whistling sound when the wind was out of the right direction. I was driving my roadster pickup and think it was coming from the windshield header area. Just wondering if others have this problem?

How are your shocks?

My phaeton did the same thing one time. I don't recall exactly which part made the whistle though, but it was by the windshield.

My 31 Town Sedan was a fun drive across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Those skinny tires and the wind are quite a combination.

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
I will say my model A since I installed stipe shocks handles the wind in stride.. Now you'd think it would make a difference with cross winds which they do but it helps with head winds too. I cannot really tell a large difference as comparded to my 2012 Jeep liberty which is of similar shape but 4,200 lbs.

Re: Wind+Model A...doesn't mix well!!!
I'm trying to get it right side up.
Oh well, I tried.. In real life, I had it up to 35 and that was fine for me. Enjoy the day, it's 85 and sunny here with no wind. Think I'll fire up the little truck and go for a drive.. |
